We hold weekly Forest sessions.

For the academic year 2022-2023 these sessions will be on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday.

We are aiming to add in a second session later in the week as the year progresses.

What is Forest school

Forest Schooling is a method of working outdoors with children, young people and adults focusing on their needs and using the natural environment to promote social and emotional progress.

Why is Forest School such a great opportunity for your children?

– Children are taught how to assess risks for themselves.
– Children are able to develop their speech, language, social skills and empathy.
– They learn to respect and appreciate the environment.
– Raises self-esteem.
– Promotes independence, self-discovery and confidence.
– Research shows that children attending Forest Schools had strong social skills, the ability to work in groups effectively, and generally have high esteem and confidence in their own capabilities. These attributes have proved to be an effective foundation that helps raise general academic achievements

How to prepare

‘There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’
Forest School is an all weather experience and we would like to ask parents to send their children with the appropriate clothing.

More is better than less here as we always can take clothes off if too warm but once children are cold they will have a less enjoyable experience.

We suggest ensuring your child has:

– lots of layers (tights/long john’s under trousers)
– water proof trousers
– waterproof warm jacket (or normal jacket thin rain jacket on top)
– hat and gloves
– outdoor shoes (waterproof trainers, winter shoes/boots) – NO WELLIES PLEASE!!!
– Spare clothes for afterwards

Domino Nursery does have a number of all in one rain suits that can be used by the children attending these sessions.

Note on Wellies

Wellies are great for puddles!! But are not good shoes for keeping feet warm and are not ideal for running,
jumping, walking or climbing and are hence unsafe to use in a forest session. If there will be puddles involved in our session you will be informed in advance.
